New Moon in Gemini: The Illusory Gap Need Not Be Bridged

When egos are no longer meddling in biases or fixes or “making others see,” the natural, healthy, perfectly timed solution emerges.

This Monday, we welcome the New Moon in the mutable air sign of Gemini, the Twins. Gemini, boosted by its ruler Mercury-Hermes, rules communication of all sorts. Speaking, writing, networking. Podcasting, videos, emails, newsletters. Texting, social media, and that dreaded and loved apparatus known as the “smart” phone. Gemini is the king/queen of multitasking. Of news bytes, tidbits, trivia, and all sorts of facts and fascinations flooding constantly through the airwaves.

Archetypally, however, Gemini represents duality.

Here, in the Twins’ glyph ♊︎ we see the opposites side by side. Male and female, yin and yang, you and me, this and that, hot and cold, good and bad, chocolate and vanilla, sweet and bitter, etc. All nesting stably and perfectly aligned in Existence. Those two pillars are united, aren’t they, at the top and bottom of the symbol – above and below. Yoked eternally at both the “higher” planes of consciousness and the “lower,” embodied, grounded, rooted dimensions. Such is the glyph:

Such beauty emerges in seeing, appreciating, and allowing – without resistance – all forms and appearances of duality.

Generally, in the more politically correct spiritual arena, the idea of separation is frowned upon: “Come together!” “Separation is suffering.” “We must join in unity!” What is so often forgotten is that the idea of separation is an illusion. Everything is inseparable and absolutely connected. Believing in the illusion is the actual root of suffering. If you look again at the glyph for Gemini, you’ll see another way of seeing: there are not even two pillars or columns side by side – that is just perception. In reality, it’s one “thing,” a single presentation. A single moment in time. Like this instant. And that one. And this one. And so on.

All-That-Is Needs No Gap Bridged

What I would like to turn your attention towards, for just a moment, is the importance of seeing things as they are, even if it’s not your preference, without attempting to fix, change, heal, or do anything about the “other.” Notice your tendency to try and bridge the gap. Building bridges is all fine and good; however, there is a critical piece missing most of the time, and that piece is allowance. Fully. Including the ugliest bits, the most off-putting, the darkest shadow. See it accurately. Without lifting a finger. Watch what emerges.

A miraculous occurrence often arises when our egos are no longer meddling in biases or fixes or “making others see.” The natural, healthy, perfectly timed solution or evolution emerges out of the space between. One may call it alchemy which occurs between, through, and as the tension between opposites – those two pillars of Gemini’s apparent duality.

My encouragement is, No Ego Muddling or Meddling! Allow, even enjoy the interplay of two or more “sides,” POV’s, arguments. Observe and witness the daresay beauty in the friction, contrast; the interplay of Shadow and Light. Every moment is the opportunity to experience yet another miracle when we cease clinging to any ideas or concepts of how it should be. How it should feel, look, resolve. How it should play out. Or even, what constitutes “good,” beauty, or love.

All That Is, is Beauty! Even the apparent shadow – that we cannot momentarily see. That which appears separate, is never not connected.

As an example, think of Gemini M.C. Escher’s (b. June 17, 1898) wonderful drawings and woodcuts such as “Sky and Water” (top). Where would we be without the shadow? Everything is already fundamentally whole. It is our perception that creates seeming duality.

At this time of the New Moon in airy Gemini, honor the opposites, which are fully united and dependent upon each other for Existence. Allow Reality to unfurl as it will. Trust, be happy and rejoice as the illusion of separation dissolves to reveal the ever-perfect Whole.

move among and intermingle without distinction.
To live in this realization

To live in this faith is the road to non-duality,
because the non-dual is one with the trusting mind.
