Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius: It's A Leap of Faith
A new beginning with a vision and courage. One door closes – or slams shut if necessary – and another opens to reveal a vast horizon ahead.
Tomorrow, we welcome a New Moon Solar Eclipse in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius, the Archer. This eclipse is the final in an 18-month series and a significant chapter of life is coming to a close. Yes, another ending… Yet, it’s not a time to be sad. One door closes – or slams shut if necessary – and another one opens to reveal a vast new horizon ahead.
Sagittarius’ glyph (♐︎) is the arrow that soars through time and space to its destiny. You are not the archer shooting the arrow, you are the arrow itself. This arrow is fueled by faith. You will not know all the details of where you’re headed. You’ll feel the cool breeze as you sail through the skies; you’ll hear the wind whistling in your ears. You might have a gleeful smile on your face, you might have tears flowing out the corners of your eyes. You might be laughing and squealing with delight, you might be screaming in terror. Do let me assure you that, no matter what, if you trust the process, you’ll truly dig where you land. Right on target.
Claiming Our Freedom
“Liberation is not an acquisition but a matter of courage, the courage to believe that you are free already and to act on it.” ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, I Am That
Most of you reading this will know exactly which part of life this Sagittarius eclipse is spotlighting, which terrain the arrow is flying over. It’s obvious, it’s the thing your spirit won’t stop talking to you about. Perhaps it’s a job or career aspect that has grown exhausting, or a relationship that is done, done, done. It might be a geographical location that you are destined to leave, or a family pattern or tradition that must be finished. It’s obvious, you must fly the coop, because the story has grown stale, or draining, or simply has reached a natural endpoint. In fact, there’s not a whole lot we will have to “do” about this departure; it’s actually being lifted, by Grace.
We all have Sag in our charts somewhere; we are all students, adventurers, explorers in our hearts – no one can stay stuck forever. How do you know which direction you’re meant to go? Here’s a hint: it’s likely the one that scares you, whether a little or a lot. There’s bound to be some fear or trepidation. Why? Because it’s unknown. It’s the jungle, it’s in the dark, it’s new to you. But still, your spirit knows it’s got to move on, and this eclipse will give you the chutzpah and vision to do so.
Your spiritual life will be of great help at this time. Talks with counsel, prayer and meditation, candles and rituals help to soothe the spirit. You are not alone, even if you feel alone. Unseen forces are coming to your aid. When we have a solid inner ground, i.e. trust in Life unfolding, we can soar as high and far and wide as our spirits need. The fears of entrapment, entanglement are gone. It is worth it to focus on the spiritual life as a massive source of strength – at times more than financial resources. We remember that the truth of who we are is always perfectly okay, always safe, for we are not separate; we are Life itself.
A Word on Willfulness
One important thing when appealing to the Divine is to not ask for specific outcomes. If you are praying for specific results, you’re forcing your will. These are often disguised as manifestation techniques, which can work when aligned with Spirit, with Nature; yet, often the underlying energy is that of controlling and believing one knows better than Life itself what is best. Not true.
If you are not getting exactly what you think you should receive, you are not meant to get it, period. The illusion of separation, of self-will, is bound to bring suffering. This is part of some of the biggest ills of our current world – constantly striving, working toward progress, having more, having it your way. It’s all ego, disguised as “making it happen,” or “having it all.” Eventually, this sort of force sees an individual or collective hitting a brick wall.
It’s fine to desire, but it must be seen accurately as just that – desire. It may or may not come to fruition or be what is good and true and right for one’s individual or collective nature. The degree of suffering depends on the egoic attachment to the person, place or situation. Receive and witness your vision – and simultaneously let it go, and trust the outcome.
Spiritual Strength and Succor
When your spirit is screaming at you to take a leap of faith, cultivate trust in the unknown. Have faith that this change will be good for you. Trust you will be better off with this ending and new beginning coming in. Trust it is possible to have a job you love, or that you can support yourself independently.
If you are in an unhappy relationship, have faith that there is someone out there you can be happy with consistently. Have faith that you can make a move to a new home or location and thrive. Have faith that if you walk away from settling, from conflict, from depletion that you will find something better. That is the promise of Sagittarius, the journeyer who knows how to ease on down the road.
In this time of the Solar Eclipse, realize that it’s okay to sacrifice the illusion of safety and security in order to be true to yourself, to your true nature. This eclipse has come along to help you finish the job, to seal off a chapter of life and make it known that you are on the road to something new. Sagittarius reminds us to have courage. The important thing is to feed your spirit. No more dying on the vine – it’s time to fly.
