Regarding the wool balls, if I like, I can use some favorite essential oils with the balls without overwhelming fragrances. The balls also help the clothes dry a bit faster and I just feel more environmentally conscientious when I’m not throwing away those useless little white sheets.
Wow- great rant! It really got me going. I have always wondered if I just have a stronger sense of smell than most😂 I guess my hippie days in the 60s rescued me from buying anything that isn’t organic and that has helped a lot. Also I live out in the middle of nowhere with a partner who agrees with me. Naming names, I stumbled on Fer a Cheval soap products several years ago.. They are an arm and a leg, but worth it. They are a French company based out of Marseille and smell great and work beautifully.
I am adding here my absolute loathing for plastic plants and flowers. If there are any in my traveling accommodations, I stick them in a closet immediately!😂
Hahaha! I love that - putting the plastic plants and flowers IN THE CLOSET immediately! Yes! Reminds me of one time we stayed over Christmas at a place that had so much Xmas decor that we could not see one countertop. Keith put all of it in a closet (after taking pictures so we could put it back!). We called it Santapalooza or Santageddon.
The Fer a Cheval sounds great! I think I've seen that soap out in the world; I'll have to try some of it! Thank you!
Not sure if you have a dishwasher soap you like, but I use Dirty Labs. In fact, they have a laundry soap, too. I think I'll nab that right now!
SAME! Just last night stepped outside to enjoy the night air and went back inside because the neighbor’s dryer was blowing that stuff downwind. People don’t realize how far fumes carry. TY for speaking up about this!
I can smell a dryer sheet a mile away... when I walk past a house that smells like that, I feel compassion for those that are breathing the fumes indoors and on their clothes! Thank you, Anna. Spread the word!
I've had to get up and change seats in training programs. And then needing to explain myself, because there are only a given number of chairs. Very hard to do ... explaining that it's not personal but "I'm allergic to your scent, probably your laundry." 😬 again, thank you for putting "voice" to this 🙏
I hear you. I've changed seats many times in groups. I think people are becoming more aware, but it's taking time, especially in certain geographical areas. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Totally get it. I'm far from perfect and I do use some scents and even perfume sometimes. But the fabric softener really gets me because I'm literally sleeping in a cloud of added chemicals.😂 😶🌫️

I had a foster dog for a few months, and on every walk, I had to pull up my winter gear over my face so I could breathe. People are such ******* and I don't understand why they don't get it. It makes me so angry. That, and the spreading of manure from factory farms every single nice day in summer. They'll do everything to banish us indoors with our virtual reality goggles instead. Where to go. What to do. I'm so allergic, for real. 😪
I operate a bed and breakfast and advertise, natural products and 100% cotton. I use wool dryer balls! Also, my muscles react to polyester sheets (and plug-in heating pads). Yep, weird! I'm not sure, but are they like antenna for EMFs? 😝🙃
Oh, don't get me started on polyester sheets and towels! I can't stand the feel on my body. I'm trying to get away from most synthetic fabrics in general. You're not weird! You're healthy! and, yay for what you're offering guests! Thank you!
Arghhhh sorry this happened (again)! It really is a tragedy just how brainwashed mainstream society has become in thinking these products are what guests want or enjoying the smell of them (like, how?!) I was thinking about how easily commercials got me when I was a kid watching TV thinking “those are the best products because they say so!” I guess some people never escape that belief structure. Thanks for sharing this PSA! And I hope you share your comments with every Airbnb owner you come into contact with 🙏 also I’d love to know the brand of your dishwasher powder!
I'm reminded to inquire with the Airbnb owner *before* I book - I always forget! But I will ask moving forward b/c it's just horrific. I've also noticed it's worse in some areas of the country, actually. Where the conditioning is strong or hasn't been penetrated. Thank you for your comment, Margo.
